On August 12, nearly 40 Club members across 12 teams showcased their creativity, curiosity and STEM skills at the Boys & Girls Club Science Fair.
Participants presented an exciting variety of projects, including s’mores made in solar ovens, experiments with magnets and slime, color-changing flowers, optical illusions, plant-growth investigations and a model of the solar system. “I had fun coming to the Eastside Club and painting and creating the solar system model,” one Eastside member shared. “I didn’t expect to win!”
“Every project represents hours of imagination, teamwork and determination. Our members embraced challenges, learned through experimenting andcreated something they were proud to present,” said Stefan Ahles, Talahi KIDSTOP Site Manager and head of Inter-Club activities.
Winners in the Cadet Division were Pine Meadow, which earned first place for its Solar Oven: Harnessing the Power of the Sun project; Talahi and Lincoln 742, which tied for second place with Color-Changing Flowers; and Southside, which placed third for their experiment on how different liquids affect plant growth.
In the Junior Division, three Discovery Club projects tied for first place: The Unbreakable Bubble, DIY Water Dispenser, and Walking Water. Eastside earned second place for its magnetism experiment, How Symbiotes Move, inspired by the character Venom. Talahi and Lincoln 742 took third place with their Elephant Toothpaste project.
In the Senior Division, Eastside’s solar system model earned first place, while Southside’s magnetic slime project placed second.
We are grateful to our staff for inspiring curiosity, encouraging creativity and fostering a love of STEM. We also extend our sincere appreciation to judges Bridget Pauna, Vice President of Servicing and Collections at Preferred Credit, Inc., and Alicia Mages, Community Outreach Specialist with the Waite Park Police Department, for sharing their time and making the Science Fair a memorable experience for our Club members.
