Local Boys & Girls Club Member Receives National Recognition for Artwork

On September 21, 2020, Boys & Girls Clubs of America announced that Samantha Zheng of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota was selected as a national winner in the National Fine Arts Contest in the 10 to 12 age group for artwork titled, “My Little World.”

Every year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) National Arts Contest recognizes hundreds of highly talented young artists at the local, regional and national levels. This year, BGCA received close to 4,000 entries from local Clubs, so this is a remarkable accomplishment for Samantha. This past month, regional winners were judged by professionally recognized artists in Atlanta, GA. Their decisions were difficult, and this entry was selected as one of only 33 national winners.

As a national winning artist, youth will receive a framed certificate and a professionally framed copy of their artwork, made possible by Michael’s. In addition, their artwork will be professionally reproduced and displayed in BGCA’s online National Art Gallery.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota is committed to providing high quality arts opportunities and experiences to the youth we serve,” said Senior Director of Communications Aimee Minnerath. “We are thrilled to be able to recognize one of our youth on a national level for their creative excellence. Congratulations, Samantha!

“We also want to encourage youth to continue to practice their craft. Like sports and everything else we do, practice yields incredible results. Keep doing art! It’s a healthy means of self-expression for all of us.”
