Mission Youth Outreach Virtual Event

Military youth are invited to participate in Boys & Girls Club’s virtual program!

When: May 6th
Time: 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. on Zoom

What: Create your own island map!

Participants will use their creativity and spatial awareness to design their own unique island on grid paper. They will learn basic cartography concepts such as scale, symbols, and geographical features while incorporating personal touches like mountains, lakes, towns, roads, and more. This project encourages imaginative thinking and an understanding of how maps represent landforms and human settlements in a simplified form.

Kits will be emailed upon registration and will include:

  • A PDF of grid paper
  • A map key
  • More information about the Boys & Girls Club

Youth should have the following available for the class:

  • Print out multiple sheets of the grid paper provided
  • Pencil, colored pencils and/or markers
  • Eraser
  • ruler

Registration for the event is open through May 1st. A zoom link for the session, along with instructions, will be emailed to those who register on May 2nd. We look forward to doing this project with your youth!
